Dean Sharrar

As Head of Barrington Treasury Services, Dean is the linchpin of the division with particular strength and experience in the areas of treasury policy and cash management.
Responsible for steering and managing Barrington’s client strategies for foreign exchange and interest rate risk as well as driving excellence in the client’s delivery model.
Dean started his career in corporate treasury as a graduate with British Aerospace in the UK. He became the first full-time Treasurer appointed by Dowty Group plc, a diverse group with four main business areas: aerospace, electronics, polymers and data systems. Exposures ranged from long-term, high-value US dollar exposure from the aerospace and electronics divisions, to short-term, high value business in a wide range of currencies for the polymer and data systems divisions. Dean was also the first full-time treasurer appointed by ZESPRI International Limited following an external review of the organisation’s treasury activity.
As director and shareholder, Dean has responsibility for staff, sales and business strategy and also manages key client projects, including:
- Reviewing transactional banking arrangements for major corporates and universities, domestic and international.
- Managing tender processes (covering debt and transactional banking services) for multinational groups in Australia and NZ.
- Setting up treasury functions for new entities.
- Reviewing treasury policies for medium and large businesses.
- Presenting to Boards/Councils on treasury governance.
Dean is a Certified Treasury Professional member of both the Australian Finance and Treasury Association Limited and the Institute of Financial Professionals New Zealand. He is also an associate member of the Association of Finance Professionals in the US.
Tony Ziemek

Tony’s career spans 30 years of corporate treasury roles with major companies, primarily in the energy sector together with a number of current and former board positions. Extensive governance experience has also been gained in both the private sector and government, especially in organisational restructures, project development and major divestments and acquisitions. He holds the FINSIA Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Tony has represented Barrington Treasury Services in Australia since 2013 and has also held the following roles:
- Director of Maleny Credit Union (an APRA-governed, Australian authorised deposit-taking institution) and member of the Risk and Audit and Finance Committees
- CEO of Maleny Credit Union during the 2020 sale process to Queensland Country Bank
- Director of Commercial and Treasury Services – own company specialising in advisory assignments across most industries.
- Chair of True (formerly Family Planning Queensland), implementing a commercial focus to growth areas of the business including re-branding the organisation.
- Chair of Queensland Poetry Festival, overseeing continued growth into its 20th year attracting local, interstate and international visitors to the festival and related events.
- Director of Perpetuwave Power, a wave energy development company.
Tony first specialised in corporate treasury at the Adelaide Steamship Company and was Treasurer during its refinancing and asset sale period. Relocating to Adelaide after the float of Woolworths from the Adsteam group, he established and ran a new treasury function for Elders Limited following its ASX re-listing from the Fosters Group and was part of the Elders Rural Bank establishment team.
Subsequently, the Queensland Government-owned generator Tarong Energy recruited Tony as Treasurer. Providing around a quarter of the State’s electricity, Tarong sought additional capacity and fuel supply, completing a number of transactions with Queensland Treasury Corporation and with joint venture parties. During this period, Tarong also developed and built South Australia’s first wind farms. Tarong was later combined with Stanwell Corporation to provide around 45% of the State’s electricity supply. The Treasurer role then expanded to include a commercial review of all capital and major operational investments.

Craig joined Barrington Treasury in 2007 and specialises in treasury governance, policy, health checks and IFRS. His role is to provide specialist treasury advice and market strategies to a diverse portfolio of clients, fostering strong long-term relationships as well as undertaking one-off project work. He has extensive experience developing and reviewing treasury operations and policies and has a clear view of the intricacies of IFRS 9 and hedge accounting.
Craig’s corporate treasury skills were honed in the UK, where he was treasurer for the Commonwealth Secretariat, an intergovernmental agency spanning the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. Craig also spent several years based in Canada, working in the finance team of North America’s largest construction materials provider.
Craig has a Bachelor of Management Studies from the University of Waikato and is a member of both the Finance and Treasury Association and INFINZ (Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand).
Suresh Ranchhod

Suresh has been at Barrington since 2006 and has over (18) years of experience within the finance and banking sectors. Suresh began his career at one of the ‘big four’ chartered accounting firms, specialising in bank client audits. This specialist banking sector knowledge led Suresh to pursue senior roles within the investment banking industry. He has held positions within internal audit, financial reporting, product control, risk management and other project functions.
Suresh has worked for major investment banks in New Zealand and the UK, where he gained valuable experience in measuring, monitoring and reporting treasury risks and financial performance. He has also resolved accounting, financial product valuation and control issues, and conducted system implementations. Suresh joined Barrington as a Client Advisor and is now the Head of Treasury Advisory Services, overseeing a team of advisors and analysts.
Suresh is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, INFINZ (Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand) and the FTA (Finance and Treasury Association of Australia).
Earl White
Executive Advisor
Throughout his career Earl has worked across both corporate treasury and banking sectors. Before his involvement in treasury advisory, Earl worked for major international banking groups in Australasia, Asia and the United States. In his most recent banking role, Earl was responsible for the management of the group’s domestic interest rate risk and he held overall remit for all foreign exchange risk and the bank’s treasury marketing unit. He also negotiated a number of global funding facilities for the bank.
As a treasury advisor, Earl has advised a number of major borrowers on funding alternatives domestically and within global capital markets. He has also advised on, and assisted in, the preparation of a number of policy and procedure protocols for the management of treasury risk for a wide range of organisations, including government entities and publicly listed companies.
At Barrington, Earl manages a portfolio of clients with total currency and interest rate exposures in excess of $20 billion.
Earl is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a Certified Treasury Professional member of the FTA (Finance and Treasury Association, Australia) and INFINZ (Institute of Financial Professionals of New Zealand). He has a Bachelor of Business (Finance) from Massey University and a Post Graduate diploma in Finance (Auckland University).
Roger Kerr

Roger established Barrington NZ (in association with Barrington) in December 2018 and leads the company in sourcing new client business, servicing retained clients and delivering one-off treasury advisory projects. Roger has led a distinguished professional career focused on treasury management consultancy. His achievements include the establishment and management of PwC Treasury Advisory (2012-2018), Asia-Pacific Risk Management (1998-2012) and Barrington Treasury Services (1987-1998).
Roger specialises in corporate treasury management advice, designing and reviewing FX/treasury management policies, foreign exchange risk analysis and hedging programmes, debt management, governance on investment management funds, writing commentaries on FX markets, interpretation/insight/viewpoint of financial markets and general economic trends.
His current governance roles include being Board Chairman (and major shareholder) for treasury outsourcing specialist, ETOS Ltd., director of Pie Funds Management Ltd, and a director of the disputes resolution scheme, Financial Services Complaints Ltd Roger has previously held directorships with Trust Investments Management Ltd, National Provident Fund and NZ Government Debt Management Office advisory board.

Chris joined Barrington in 2020 as Director, Head of Market Risk. With extensive experience in specialist treasury management advisory services for corporate clients and private businesses, Chris has built a strong reputation for delivering value through strategic / tactical foreign exchange, interest rate and commodity price risk management techniques. With particular expertise in research and interpretation of local / global economic and financial / investment / commodity market events, Chris looks beyond day-to-day developments into wider macro themes. Chris has significant expertise as a Foreign Currency Strategist. An important part of his role is the communication of succinct and timely market information to the Barrington client base.
Throughout his career, Chris has demonstrated his astute analytical ability, often conducting comprehensive research on topics such as NZD/USD exchange rate outlook and global and New Zealand long-term interest rates with outcomes that correctly ran counter to consensus accepted views. In addition to understanding of financial markets, Chris forms strong knowledge of individual businesses.
Chris started his career as an analyst with the National Australia Bank before moving to hold an associate director role at Asia-Pacific Risk Management and an executive directorship (Treasury Advisory) with PwC.
Chris is a Certified Treasury Professional member of the Institute of Financial Professionals New Zealand (INFINZ).
Miles O’Connor

Over his twenty year career in treasury advisory, Miles has gained significant expertise in interbank and corporate money markets with a detailed understanding of the fixed interest markets. Martin has held senior positions in New Zealand merchant banks and banking groups and has broad experience on the use of interest rate synthetic (or derivative instruments).
In the interest rate advisory and consultancy areas, Miles acts for a wide range of borrowers and investors throughout New Zealand, with his main areas of focus being investment portfolio management in the utilities and local government sectors. Based in Barrington’s Christchurch office, Miles also shares responsibility for client relationships throughout the South Island.
Dwayne Jones

Dwayne joined the Barrington Treasury team in 2019. His role is to provide specialist treasury advice and financial market strategies to a broad portfolio of clients, building strong trusting relationships, as well as undertaking project work. Throughout his 30 year career, Dwayne has gained international experience and recognition working for major banks and corporate entities covering Foreign Exchange, Interest Rate Derivatives, Money Markets, Debt, Funding, Commodities and Trade Finance.
His inherent ability to interpret and analyse financial market information, providing direct and meaningful conversations within critical timeframes is an asset for Barrington Treasury clients. This, combined with an ability to provide clear communication and analytical solutions, has enabled Dwayne to consistently add value and generate positive returns. Dwayne is a Certified Treasury Professional member of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand (INFINZ).
Nick Reeves

Nick’s expertise lies in helping organisations to identify and manage financial risk and gain treasury and transactional banking efficiencies with the aim of improving treasury management and performance. Having gained corporate treasury experience in New Zealand and London, Nick joined Barrington Treasury on his return to Auckland in 2008. His role is to provide tailored advice to a broad range of clients, fostering ongoing relationships as well as undertaking one-off project work.
Nick has extensive global and local transactional banking experience and he also specialises in developing policies and methods for proactively managing currency, interest rate and commodity price risks. He is also knowledgeable in the area of hedge accounting and derivative valuations.
Nick has a Bachelor of Commerce and Post Graduate Diploma in Finance from the University of Otago. While in the UK, Nick completed the Certificate of International Cash Management. He is part of the UK-based Association of Corporate Treasurers and is a member of the Finance and Treasury Association Limited.

Derek is Director and Head of Corporate Finance at Barrington. He has provided advice to a range of international and domestic corporates, publicly listed firms and private companies on M&A transactions, capital raisings and business valuations. Derek leads Barrington’s debt capital mandates and has assisted clients in over 120 successful transactions worth more than $16 billion in debt funding.
While at Barrington, Derek has provided transaction, corporate finance and capital management advice to public and private sector clients across a range of sectors including utilities, ports, construction, tertiary education, retail, property, manufacturing, transport, local government and state-owned enterprises.
He has worked with a range of high-profile clients including Downer EDI Limited, Goodman Property Trust, Ports of Auckland, Zespri International and many leading universities in Australia and New Zealand.

Craig has 25 years of experience working in finance. He joined the Barrington Treasury group in 2013 after running his own business since 2009. Craig’s responsibilities include building relationships with new clients as well as supporting the delivery of independent strategic treasury advice to companies throughout Australia.
His expertise helps companies to ensure that they are managing their financial risks in an ever- changing climate, getting competitive pricing on their financial instruments and using the most effective methods and systems to achieve the desired outcomes. Craig has saved companies hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in both qualitative and quantitative enhancements. Prior to working with Barrington, he has extensive institutional financial markets dealing experience. Craig has a Bachelor of Commerce from Griffith University.

Henry is based in Perth, Western Australia and has worked in foreign exchange and financial markets for almost forty years. A senior financial risk management professional, Henry has extensive experience across banking and financial markets and is adept at assisting companies to manage their financial risks. He is technically skilled with excellent knowledge of financial markets risk products, pricing, frameworks, governance, compliance and operations.
Henry has worked at the Commonwealth and National Banks in Perth and the Bank of New Zealand in Auckland before commencing a consultancy career.
